Best Buddies Scrapping and New Arrivals

Best Buddies
Michele here - with a layout as my second offering for Boys month at my2angels, and my take on this month's Sketch Challenge. For this one, called "Best Buddies", I have turned the sketch 180 degrees clockwise so that the top is at the bottom and the left is on the right ;) and used Kaiser's 'Attitude!' Collection with a very old photo of my DS and his buddy from across the street. How cute is it that they are wearing the same t-shirt...Awwww. Here's the sketch:

 and here's my layout.

The base paper for this layout is the reverse of 'Dude', a plain white paper with a subtle check and some pale grey graffiti details. I have distressed it, added some paint runs, some stencilling and some stamping. The paint runs were achieved by spraying behind the photo with Mini Misters full of distress re-inkers and water. The colours are Walnut Stain and Brushed Corduroy and all I did was to hold the paper up while I sprayed. There is a bit of a mist of both colours there as well, but that was unintended - I held the mister close to the paper so that the runs flowed easily to the bottom of the page. The brick wall stencil, Crafters Workshop's 'Bricks' Template uses the same two Distress Ink colours (Brushed Corduroy is out of stock right now) with the addition of 'Black Soot'. These were lightly applied using the Inkssentials Ink Blending Tool. The stamp is Kaiser's Textured Clear Stamp called 'Graffiti' and is stamped both with Versafine 'Vintage Sepia' ink and just a little bit with 'Fired Brick' Distress ink.

The first strip of patterned paper down the right hand side of the page is 'Whatever!'. I've coloured in a couple of the white spots with 'Fired Brick' Distress Ink just to carry through that touch of red. The second layer is a piece of 'Trouble' and then there is the photo. I though black and white would look great with these papers, and besides, one of the t-shirts is actually blue and I wanted to work with green in the embellishments :).

The embellishment I most wanted to use was this green zipper (a very old Bo Bunny embellishment that has been languishing in my stash forever) which I rusted a bit and added to the top of the photo, just under the title. The title is made from a mix of the letter stickers from the Attitude! 12x12 Sticker Sheet and some matching chipboard letters from my stash. These have been inked with 'Black Soot' Distress Stain and coated with Crackle Accents (oos). In between the words is the paper clipped half of a my2angels Mates Boy Pin which I have inked with 'Brushed Corduroy' and crackled, and above is a small circle punched from Attutude!'s 'Individual', this time inked with 'Black Soot'.

The line of red arrows at the top of the page is a part of a sticker strip from the Attitude! 12x12 Sticker Sheet.

I'm not really big on journalling, so the three rows of 'strip journalling' on this layout are really three pieces of my2angels designs 'Boys Mates Pals Buddies' ribbon . I've sort of ruined the nice straight edges with a pair of scissors, but I think they look great popped up on Foam Mounting Tape (oos) The words are really very appropriate to the photo and match the grungy style of the layout.

My embellishments for this layout are rusty again. I was liking the rust on my ATC's so decided to carry on with it :). The chipboard Cogs and Gears have all been given this treatment, as have the two 'dog tags'. Before rusting, the dog tags started life as chipboard rectangles. I rounded the corners and covered them with some thin silver metal then embossed them in the Cuttlebug, punched the holes and added eyelets. Then they were then hung on the Ball and Chain and layered on top of the larger tag. This one was covered with 'Rebel', embellished with two strips of paper from the edge of 'Whatever' and tied with a piece of string. The second part of the my2angels Mates Boy Pin, inked and crackled and some Tim Holtz Ideaology Mini Gears finish off the cluster.

Finally, the smaller cluster in the top corner is a repeat of the cogs and gears, a piece of green mesh from the garage (??? :)), a circular sticker from the 12x12 Sticker Sheet and a wooden  flag

Hope you like it :)

Attitude! Boys layout 22nd July (Sunday) at 1pm
Got a teen with attitude? Now you can have the layout to match. Get ready for some ink splattering, embossing and layering fun as you create a multi-photo boy layout using Attitude! - the latest masculine range from Kaiser. Learn new techniques for using Ranger Distress Stains and Tim Holtz Distress Embossing Powders; create your own journalling tag and cut out patterned paper elements to create a storyboard layout about the 'boy' in your life.

Messy Grunge Boys Layout 29th July (Sunday) at 1pm

Let's get messy!!! Pull out the inks, mists and paint and get our 'grunge' on to make a "no mistakes" layout that challenges our creativity.
Using a selection (various colours) of Adirondack Paint Dabbers, Distress Stains and Glimmer mists, together with Claudine Hellmuth Medium Gel and various embossing powers, we're going to mist, dab and distress a pizza box into submission, using it as the base for our layout.
From there we're going to add a variety of chipboard and metal embellishments (including several of our boy charms) and even a ribbon or two (our own specially designed boy ribbon). This is the best, messy fun you'll ever have!
YOUR LAYOUT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE YELLOW, I just choose yellow to suit the photo

YOU DO NOT NEED TO BRING ANYTHING TO my2angels classes, EXCEPT YOUR TOOLS AND ADHESIVES, EVERYTHING IS SUPPLIED IN THE CLASS PRICE, this includes inks, mediums, paints etc that we play with

Michelle your Buddies layout is just gorgeous. One question though - how do you apply the inks to the Crafter's workshop template. the holes in the template seem to be the brickwork and your layout looks like the mortar area is inked???

Hi Jo....thanks for liking it :)
My Crafters workshop template has the holes in the mortar area LOL! Looks like you can get it both ways I guess. I just dab it lightly over and over again with an applicator. Maybe if yours has the brickwork holes you could apply some ink to the solid mortar bit and use it like a stamp. Going to try it with my mortar and see if I can get bricks :)

Ohhhh now I want both templates
:( how surprising hey!!! I can only find one sort on the website though - I'm gathering that the pic were it is black is the empty bit and the white is the plastic of the template??? I have seen this one used with gesso and resist technique to get the mortar darker.
Tracy can you help and send me a link to your shop with the mortar template so I buy the right one???

LOL! Jo, now I want both templates too! Turns out I made a massive mistake and got the link wrong. The Crafters Workshop template in the shop is the one you already have, the one I used is a Prima one. I've emailed Tracy and explained and hope that she is able to get the Prima one for you. I'm so sorry....I'll be getting slapped I think :( but I'm going to buy the 'bricks' one for myself now too.
