Planning doesn't always work...

Hi ladies! Some amazing and totally time consuming things are happening in our lives here right now, and one of them is the birth of DH's very first grandchild - a sweet little boy. I'm thinking this makes me a first time step-grandmother - a daunting thought!

It's very exciting, and lovely to have so many new baby photos to scrap! LOL! As if I've finished with scrapping the thousands of photos of my own children as babies, toddlers, teenagers and adults!!

As is so often the case, when I sat down to start this layout I had a very definite idea in my mind. The predominant colour was going to be baby blue, with some brown & beige accents, and the charms were going to be silver. I pulled out my Mini Sweetheart Baby Blue Heart kit, and some blue papers and I chose my embellishments accordingly. As is also often the case, what I ended up with was this....

OK, I know...nothing like the plan.

The background paper is from 7 Dots Studios ''Nature Walk'' - a very neutral. lightly patterned piece. 

I started by adding a bit of Walnut Stain Distress Ink to the edges, then used a Basically Essential stencil to add a pattern in the same coloured ink. After that I used the same stencil with Mother of Pearl Champagne Modelling Cream, adding some texture and shine. Finally a light spray and a few flicked spots with Kiwi Perfect Pearls Mist.

That was when I decided that I wanted to make this a monotone layout and gave up any thoughts of blue. I took the Mini Sweetheart Baby Blue Heart kit, and, following the precise instructions included, changed the colour of the heart, the background, the sugar beads, the silver charm and the ribbon. LOL - luckily I have two of these beautiful little kits and so I can make up the baby blue one later! First I painted the chipboard with Antique Linen Distress Paint, followed it with a few swipes of Walnut Stain Distress Ink on the edges and a coat of Crackle Accents.

When it was dry I attached it to the background chipboard and filled the space with Golden Crunch Sugar Beads. Instead of the pale blue organza ribbon I attached the Bronze Heart Locket charm with a doubled piece of string tied into a bow. 

I did use the piece of muslin that was included in the kit under the heart, and I added a little more under the top of the photo. There are two thin layers of paper framing the photo and I die cut some scalloped strips to use. All are edged with Walnut Stain Distress Ink. A piece of twisted jute ribbon adds interest and dimension underneath the photo, and several torn strips of Idea-Ology Tissue Tape compliment the butterfly theme on  the ''Butterfly Kisses'' die cut.

This and all of the other paper elements on this layout are from the Nature Walk 6x12 Sticker Sheet, 6x12 Word Stickers and 6x12 Die Cut Elements sheets. A huge variety of gorgeous bits and pieces to choose from!

To balance the layout I added a small cluster in the top right hand corner. The elements used are the same as those in the body of the layout, with the addition of a Large Antique Bronze Spoon, it's bowl filled with Sugar Beads, and the layout's title - Joy - made from chipboard letters treated to the same processes as the now not-so-Baby Blue Heart.

Fortunately there are a few more photos of this charming young man at my fingertips, and I have another plan. There are some baby blue papers somewhere in my stash, a cute my2angels embellishment kit and somewhere on my desk there are some silver baby charms.

Nothing ever turns out as planned...but it doesn't matter :)

Multi Media Canvas with Inka Gold

Hello Everyone!

I've been playing with canvas' again, getting all inky - happy days!!

This is a 5x7 canvas board not frame so it's solid and flat.  I sprayed it with different coloured purple sprays, and then put Helmar Tacky Glue all over, hitting it with the heat gun to get the drying process underway.

I then applied Claudine Hellmuth Gloss Multi-Medium and adhered the chipboard, sprinkling the Purple Passion Sugar Beads in as well...

After heating again with the heat gun to dry it - and leaving it overnight to dry (it was excruciatingly painful leaving it overnight as I was impatient to finish!), I rubbed with Silver Inka Gold on the chipboard, and Violet Inka Gold on the canvas and sugar beads area...

I coloured the word "LOVE", and the silver key charm and silver arrow charms I used for the hands of the clock in the Violet Inka Gold before adhering and sealing with more gloss medium. I also used silver Inka Gold on the purple flower before sealing...

I also added the 'treasure' word from the Tim Holtz ChitChat pack - coloured with Dusty Concord Distress Ink, using glossy accents.

I added the Mauve Love Charming Word using hot glue as the adhesive as the base was uneven due to the sugar beads.

All items available from my2angels; with the exception of the canvas and the sprays - although Glimmer Mists would be just as effective as the coloursprays I used.

Sugar Beads Tea Party

When we received the Twiddleybitz Ornate shelf, I knew it was perfect to display my Sugar Beads instore and at the shows.  I kept it pretty simple though - just painting it pink and then dry brushing white paint over it. Then I glued on some fabric, brought a tea set from Big W for $6.00 and whallah - here is what I came up with ...

My title was made from Twiddleybitz Alpha Squares - covered with Fairy Floss Sugar Beads and sealed with Glossy Accents (yip still wet but the light was fading fast!).

Coffee anyone?

Here's a yummy cupcake with Flamingo Liquid Pearls for the icing and sprinkles of Fairy Floss Sugar Beads

A Vial Bottle is used as a vase for our pink flowers and turquoise microbeads and hot glue gun for water

Looking down at our Creamy Latte Sugar Beads, Crushed Ice for sugar (with a small spoon charm) and white opal liquid pearls for milk.

The ornate shelf comes with 5 small holes underneath. I used 3 of them to hang 3 tea cups - out of which spill out our scrumptious sugar beads.

There are so many different uses for the ornate shelf. I'm tempted to make a jewellery holder for my DD, or to store my own personal jars of sugar beads (as the front panel of the shelf can be removed to expose 5 sections inside). I'm sure you can come up with many more.

In an effort not to end up on the "Hoarders" TV show I've been trying to use up bits and pieces from my stash. Here I made a background from 2 papers and a barcode strip, added some stickers, an old rosette and some arrows. So far so good.

Stashbuster pages are great but they sometimes end up looking a bit slapped together. Which they are!

Especially my title chipboard looked to be from the last century (it is). I glammed it up with some mint crush sugar beads.

(The letters were already printed in different shades and patterns of green.)

First I covered the bottom of the letters with Dimensional Magic and covered them with mint crush sugar beads. The bigger beads tend to come out first and I made sure there were plenty of them. I let that dry and then repeated it with the smaller microbeads that come out last. I let the original colour show through on the top of the letters, giving it all a multi-coloured effect. 

2 more coats of Dimensional Magic kept everything in place.

The waves below the title are quick to stitch with the Sew Easy tool and the scallop head.

playing around with the gorgeous 75 cents collection from Kaisercraft

I loved the idea of using a Inkssentials Black Tag #8
and Inkssentials black ATC with this delicious Kaiser collection

From the 61/2 inch pad I cut one of the pattern papers 6 1/2 x 13 1/2. I inked the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink, and then placed Black Rhinestone Chain down each side.

I have used the ATC as a matt for the pattern paper which I have rubbed using the Tim Holtz ink blending tool and Vintage Photo Distress Ink, which has accentuated the embossing on the paper.

I have used the Idea-Ology Ornate plate as a frame over the butterfly cut-out from the paper pad, then placed the ATC on the tag with foam tape.

and lastly added the creamy butter cherry blossom and moss green cherry blossom, brown scalloped edged organza ribbon and Brown Rhinestone Chain.

I finished off by inking all edges using Versa baby blue ink.

Creamy Latte and Blue Lemonade ATC's

How better to decorate your tiny ATC's than with tiny, sparkly Sugar Beads!?

For this set of ATC's, which I made using Creative Imaginations Oceanside papers, Creamy Latte and Blue Lemonade Sugar Beads are the PERFECT match.

I made the base of my ATC's from a left over scrap of Navy Blue cardstock I found in my stash - about half a 12 x 12 sheet. The thing about ATC's, is that there are no rules, except that they have to be 2.5" x 3.5" in size, so when I make a set like these, I love the fact that they are all different. 

They have a lot of very similar elements, but the differences are what makes them fun.   :)

The background of each one is a different piece cut from a sheet of Del Mar paper - sadly now out of stock ... I wouldn't mind getting some more! There is a starfish, two different shells and a butterfly.

I popped a mask over the top and used an Ink Blending Tool and  Chipped Sapphire Distress ink to add the circle pattern to the cards.

On top of a few of the circles I applied Glossy Accents and then spooned over some Blue Lemonade Sugar Beads.

The Antique Bronze Spoon is just made to be a Sugar Bead tool!

Just shake off the excess and poke the beads around until you have the perfect fit.

Popped up on Dimensional Tape, the next layer is made by mounting a small rectangle of paper on more navy blue cardstock. Three of these pieces are from the varnished Seashells Paint It Paper, and I have inked them a bit with Chipped Sapphire to make the varnished pattern stand out. The other is cut from Del Mar.

To add the accents to this piece - on three of them I laid down two lines of Double Sided tape right next to each other. The tea-dyed muslin is twisted, frayed and laid onto the first piece of tape and Creamy Latte Sugar Beads  are stuck onto the second. The teeny, tiny micro beads stick really well to the tape, and a bit of  Glossy Accents added to the top makes a perfect bed for the larger beads.

On the other one I laid down the line of tape for the muslin as before, but added the Sugar Beads to the starfish shape revealed when I inked the  Seashells Paint It Paper. Glossy Accents is again the glue, this time just squeezed carefully onto the shape.

Finally, the stickers from the 12x12 Cardstock Stickers sheet that match the background paper are added to the top. These are also on Dimensional Tape - just reduce their stickiness by dusting with talcum powder - and all have had their edges inked with Chipped Sapphire.

Creamy Latte Sugar Beads

Brace yourself - I am going to mention the "C" word!!!

I created a Christmas Card with Twiddleybitz 13x13 Cream Card

 which I inked/blended around the edges with Peeled Paint Distress Ink.

Over this I popped a piece of Bazzill Kraft Cardstock (also ink blended also with Peeled Paint) and then a piece from Kasiercraft Just Believe Snowflake.

I heat embossed a chipboard bauble using Stampendous Aged Embossing Enamel Scarlett
and then added a sprinkling of Creamy Latte Sugar Beads - aren't they just the most elegant touch??

Stamp a floral flourish stamp onto the bottom, left-hand corner of your card using Peeled Paint Distress Ink. Highlight spots here and there with Avocado Liquid Pearls .

Also add some Ruby Red Liquid Pearls to high-light the red flourishes on the pattern paper.

 

And now a card using Twiddlybitz Kraft C6 card.

I loved the simplicity of it

 

Draw a trail with dimensional magic and sprinkle over Creamy Latte Sugar Beads.

Get a good friend who has nice handwriting (thanks Keonie x) to write Happy Birthday in between the trail.

Add 2 butterfly filigrees - mount one on top of the other (bending the top one upwards slightly) and centre with a cream rose.

Whallah - you are done. One gorgeous butterfly in flight.

I have a beach layout coming up using our Creamy Latte Sugar Beads, together with our stunning Blue Lemonade Sugar Beads - surely a match made in heaven.

Popping in to show off the delicious Creamy Latte Sugar Beads, which I used to alter a note pad.

All the papers are from the Kaiser 75 Cents Collection.

I covered the front of the notepad with Penny and then cut a rectangle of Tuppance, that is slightly larger than a pretty butterfly die cut piece of Guinea. I diagonally overlaid these on one another, so that you can see both of them clearly. 

I then punched a decorative edge from the left-over piece of Penny.

Using Dimensional Magic, I glued the Creamy Latte Sugar Beads and Charming Rose Chain (from the Aunty Pack) to the bottom of the oval pattern on the die cut. 

I also glued some Creamy Latte Sugar Beads to an Antique Bronze Flower Filigree Flower.

Again using Dimensional Magic, I glued the sugar beads around a 'note' card and inked all edges using Tim Holtz Black Soot Distress Ink.

Finally, I glued and positioned all the pieces together and added a touch of lace.

Hi, Michele here again after what seems like a looooong break. 

Actually it has only been a month and a half, but it seems much longer ... thanks for giving me some time off to get married Tracy :)

I'm not sure that I'm quite ready, but I'm back now - and just in time to test the utterly scrumptious, new Creamy Latte Sugar Beads  and Mud Cake Sugar Beads, with some of  Kaisercraft's Periwinkle papers.

Tracy has done it again with these cute little embellishments. I LOVE them, and the Creamy Latte and Mud Cake mixes are a perfect match for the vintage tones of Periwinkle.

My layout, 'Amy',  uses a not-so-perfect variation of a technique using beads shared by Anna Bjorklund in Nathalie Kalbach's 2013 Creative Jump Start Summit. (Anna's blog is here.)

The sugar beads enhance my layout's title, adding some intricate looking gorgeousness which is really not too complicated at all. 

The beads are attached using Glossy Accents, which has been painted onto the page with a fine paintbrush. I started off by adding beads individually around the letters with tweezers, but filled in the larger spaces using beads scooped up into an Antique Bronze Spoon...just the right size :)

I started with a sheet of Kraft cardstock, which I distressed and inked the edges (Black Soot Distress Ink) of and then, using an old Heidi Swapp mask, I inked a leafy pattern onto the background, dabbing softly with the Inkssentials Ink Blending Tool using Antique Linen, Tea Dye, Black Soot and Evergreen Bough Distress Inks. While the mask was still on the card I painted around some of the edges and sprayed generously with Irridescent Gold Glimmermist, letting the spray run across the page and drip off the edge. I also mixed some Evergreen Bough Reinker with water in a Mini Mister and sprayed close to the page, adding some teal green drips.

After distressing and inking the edges of all my pieces of  paper, I mounted my photo on some Periwinkle Whisper. I put this onto a bit of Breathe  and added a small piece of the black section of Impression between them. Also tucked in under the photo is a piece of frayed muslin, which softens the edges and adds to the vintage feel of the layout. I used a Sizzix Alterations On the Edge die (Scallops) to cut a strip of Newsprint Acetate, which stretches from the bottom left edge of the photo to the edge of the page.

Also running horizontally across the background on both sides of the photo mat are some strips of teal spotted washi tape, dictionary print tissue tape and Cream Cotton Lace.

Adding interest at the top of the layout are some pieces cut from a Twiddleybitz Bird on a Branch chipboard, both inked with Tea Dye and Evergreen Bough Distress Ink.

Hanging from the smaller branch on the right is another new my2angels embellishment - a russet Grandmother Charming Chain (Amy is my Great Grandmother, whom I vaguely remember as a little old lady living in Adelaide when I was a kid.) The second photo was taken outside to show you just how pretty the Glimmermist looks in the right light.

The other half of this gorgeous embellishment is draped across the Twiddleybitz Cast Iron Gates chipboard on the right of the photo. This chippie piece is popped up on dimensional tape over the washi/tissue tape combo and is coloured with Tea Dye Distress Ink. 

There are a few Creamy Latte and Mud Cake Sugar Beads scattered on the bottom of the fence posts.

 

Across the bottom of my photo is a strip of floral tape, which I have enhanced at each end using Creamy Butter Cherry Blossoms,  Dark Brown Roses, Rose Roses, Black Roses, tiny White Rose Buds and some teal roses from my stash. While I was searching through my box of oddments, I also found a few pieces of  dictionary page die cut vine that were left over from another project, so I tucked them in too.

Here are a couple of close-ups of the beads and glimmer.

This is a pretty simple layout, but the addition of these pretty beads make it more than a little bit special. I'll be using them again really soon ;)
