DIY Angel Key Embellishment

DIY Embellishment

Here is another quick, easy and oh so pretty DIY Charm Embellishment!

Cut approximately 10cm x 8cm of cream tulle, and put aside for a second.

Take one of our Angel Wings and Clock Keys and line the BACK of the key with red tape (Don't worry about it being able to see it and going over the key,
we will fix it further along
)

Peel off backing of tape and twist 23cm of our Antique Bronze chain around the key as shown

then scrunch up and shape previously cut tulle while adhering to back of key (this is when you will cover up the "exposed" tape from the first step) and seal it again with more red tape (as tulle is "holey" it needs extra tape to secure).  You could use your hot glue gun, but even I am not gained to do that with all the holes!  Trim tulle to shape if necessary.

Now with your favourite adhesive, in my case I did use my hot glue gun, and adhere 3 cream roses to your key

add a 7mm bronze jump ring to the bottom of your chain (see yesterdays post for attaching jump rings) with a bronze heart locket and key charm.

Now you have a shabby key embellishment to add to your creation.

How easy was that for such a pretty embellishment!

Hurry you only have 2 days left to get 20% all charms in store!

XOX Embellishment

With 20% off charms until 20th June, here is a great way to use our charms as an unique embellishment.

Take one of our large silver key charms and silver xox typewriter charms.

Hang the x,o,x off your key using 7mm silver jumprings

To do this, you either use 2 pairs of pliers, or be like me and use your left hand and one pair of pliers to gently open jump ring, place in typewriter key with the loop at the top.

While jump ring is still open, slip onto key and gently close the jump ring with pliers.

Adhere one of our red scroll felt hearts to the back of your key charm (our new red tape is extra strong and will hold the felt brilliantly)

Don't want red?  We also have the felt hearts in white, black and cream
You will get 4 in a packet (approximately 3cm in size) for only $1.00, available here in the felt section

and here you have one inexpensive but very attractive embellishment to pop on to your creation.

or with our black hearts and red rose

Now you will have left overs
as the felt hearts come in a packet of 4 and the roses in bunches of 5,

 so ....

get yourself a packet of silver arrow charms as well.  You will always use the remainder for the boys pages, pointing to the photo or title/date (probably best you get yourself a couple of packets, once you realise how versatile these are!)

pop a rose on your felt heart and tuck a silver arrow underneath for a quick embellishment

See how easy it is to add charms to your creations?

Don't forget you have until 20th June to get yourself 20% off all our charms, what better time to stock up on charms!

Charms add just what their name says - charm and character to your creations.

Here we have selected a few products to showcase to you

Colouring Charms

Using our Silver Evening Dress Charms as an example (after all, what woman doesn't want a variety of looks for her eveningwear?), we have coloured our charms with the following products:

Inka Gold (restocks arriving early next week)

They are also in order of how well they coloured, with Stazon being the best, but this does only apply to these smaller charms.  I have used the following products on larger charms and the Stampedous came out on top of some of the tests.  I think it is a personal choice and can often be up to what affect you want to create. You can also combine mediums - how cool would the Stazon and Stickles look together??  Experimentation is the key and playing with the various mediums is half the fun.

7 Dots Studio - Cold Country

Did you all do a huge pre-order of the new 7 Dots Studios Collections?
I did, (*blushing and hiding everything from DH*), and I used my favourite of the three -  Cold Country, by Finnabair -  to scrap a little bit of winter fun. The black and grey of this collection are lifted by the use of subtle tones of purple and turquoise. What a fantastic colour combination!

''# fly'' started off with a piece of  the reverse side of "Lonely Evenings'', followed by a piece of ''Lost Letter''. This piece was cut down, inked and distressed, before I punched the bottom edge. I wanted it to look a bit sparkly and give it an interesting shimmer in the light, so I used a Crafters Workshop Harlequin Template to add some diamond shapes.

I used both Viva Decor Modelling Creme in Metallic Platin and Ferro Metal Effect Textured Paint in Silver - and while the paint was still wet, a shake of Crushed Ice Sugar Beads and Silver Microbeads. The beads stuck pretty well, but where they were a bit loose or where I thought I needed more I added a bit of Glossy Accents to the mix.

A point to note...the micro beads look gold in these photos ... they're not. Definitely silver, but picking up the warm reflected light from my kitchen spots :)

Next, a couple of layers of patterned paper to mat my photo, and to add a bit of texture and interest to the page. I used a sheet of ''Freezing Tears'' and a sheet of ''Lonely Evenings'' from the 6x6 Designer Pad to make some paper strips and added the leftovers from my cut down piece of ''Lost Letter''.

These were all distressed and some of the pattern's droplets were highlighted with Crushed Ice Sugar Beads, small Glass Cabochons and/or Crackle Accents. These papers are great for distressing - the quality and thickness of the paper means that the distressed edges get a fluffy textural look...great for a snowy layout!

I popped my photo onto Dimensional Tape and added a bit of wrapped cotton thread, finishing it off with a bow and a purple heart from the Cold Country Die Cut Elements sheet.

At this stage I ran around the page with my Snow Cap Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabber, putting on a bit of light snow, and trailed some extra white cotton across the layout for my title. # fly is made up of gorgeous my2angels Typewriter Charms. (20% off till 20th June) .  I confess to owning the entire alphabet and I am sure that I will be replenishing my stock of letters as soon as I use them.

A bit of extra embellishing was all that was needed now, so I added a bit of white painted chipboard, two crystal sprays from my stash (love the sparkle), a Journey tag and an arrow from the Cold Country Die Cut Elements sheet.

Of course no layout is quite complete without some my2angels flowers. The grey rose is from the Black White and Grey Roses box and I also used some White Cherry Blossoms, White and Mauve roses and White and Mauve Rosebuds.

Also making a wintery appearance and adding to the cold are two Black Skeleton Leaves.

I have LOADS of gorgeous papers and elements from this collection left, so expect to see Cold Country popping up some more soon.
