7 Dots Studio - Cold Country

Did you all do a huge pre-order of the new 7 Dots Studios Collections?
I did, (*blushing and hiding everything from DH*), and I used my favourite of the three -  Cold Country, by Finnabair -  to scrap a little bit of winter fun. The black and grey of this collection are lifted by the use of subtle tones of purple and turquoise. What a fantastic colour combination!

''# fly'' started off with a piece of  the reverse side of "Lonely Evenings'', followed by a piece of ''Lost Letter''. This piece was cut down, inked and distressed, before I punched the bottom edge. I wanted it to look a bit sparkly and give it an interesting shimmer in the light, so I used a Crafters Workshop Harlequin Template to add some diamond shapes.

I used both Viva Decor Modelling Creme in Metallic Platin and Ferro Metal Effect Textured Paint in Silver - and while the paint was still wet, a shake of Crushed Ice Sugar Beads and Silver Microbeads. The beads stuck pretty well, but where they were a bit loose or where I thought I needed more I added a bit of Glossy Accents to the mix.

A point to note...the micro beads look gold in these photos ... they're not. Definitely silver, but picking up the warm reflected light from my kitchen spots :)

Next, a couple of layers of patterned paper to mat my photo, and to add a bit of texture and interest to the page. I used a sheet of ''Freezing Tears'' and a sheet of ''Lonely Evenings'' from the 6x6 Designer Pad to make some paper strips and added the leftovers from my cut down piece of ''Lost Letter''.

These were all distressed and some of the pattern's droplets were highlighted with Crushed Ice Sugar Beads, small Glass Cabochons and/or Crackle Accents. These papers are great for distressing - the quality and thickness of the paper means that the distressed edges get a fluffy textural look...great for a snowy layout!

I popped my photo onto Dimensional Tape and added a bit of wrapped cotton thread, finishing it off with a bow and a purple heart from the Cold Country Die Cut Elements sheet.

At this stage I ran around the page with my Snow Cap Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabber, putting on a bit of light snow, and trailed some extra white cotton across the layout for my title. # fly is made up of gorgeous my2angels Typewriter Charms. (20% off till 20th June) .  I confess to owning the entire alphabet and I am sure that I will be replenishing my stock of letters as soon as I use them.

A bit of extra embellishing was all that was needed now, so I added a bit of white painted chipboard, two crystal sprays from my stash (love the sparkle), a Journey tag and an arrow from the Cold Country Die Cut Elements sheet.

Of course no layout is quite complete without some my2angels flowers. The grey rose is from the Black White and Grey Roses box and I also used some White Cherry Blossoms, White and Mauve roses and White and Mauve Rosebuds.

Also making a wintery appearance and adding to the cold are two Black Skeleton Leaves.

I have LOADS of gorgeous papers and elements from this collection left, so expect to see Cold Country popping up some more soon.
