Viva Decor Modeling Creme is fantastic!

There are so many new and exciting products in the my2angels store at the moment! I want to use them all right now but there never seems to be enough time!!

This layout has it's fair share of new goodies though, starting with Kaiser's Enchanted Garden patterned papers. These are so pretty, definitely a collection for the girls. (I know you all have them since there seems to be nothing left in store!!!!).

Using a sheet of 'Fascinate' as my base I tried out my new Viva Decor Modeling Cremes in both Mother of Pearl Rose and Metallic Platin, pushing them through a stencil with an old store loyalty card to add a brocade pattern to the page. I used the two colours separately but didn't wait to dry between colours so where they touch they blend beautifully. You will need to get your stash of this product quickly before I go back to the store...I will be needing every colour Tracy has and probably more! I liked this effect so much that when it was dry I added a bit more, this time using glossy gel medium. The gel goes on white, so you can see what you are doing, but it dries clear leaving you with a subtle continuation of your pattern.

To add a bit more colour behind my photo, which is very plain, I sprayed very lightly with Vanilla Breeze and Sun Sisters Glimmermists, and stamped a few times with a script stamp (sorry, origin lost in the dim and distant past) and some Victorian Velvet Distress Ink.

To mat my photo I used two pieces of 'Entrance', slightly offset and then covered them both with a piece of white tulle to soften the darker colour a bit and add texture. The photo is placed on top of the tulle layer.

In between and on top of these layers I have tucked in a die cut from the Collections pack and few appropriate sentiments which came from the 12 x 12 Sticker Sheet. 

Taking centre stage at the top of the layout is a gorgeous Love you to Infinity Pink Charming Key Chain. I confess to adding a bit more Stampendous Shabby Pink Embossing Enamel to the key so that it looked as luscious as the chipboard word,  'love', and the chipboard flourish framing the photo. I love the way it looks up there in the corner, with the dangling end seeming to link the two sections of the layout together. Very happy with that!

Another gorgeous my2angels embellishment (and one that I've had in my stash since way before I became an angel myself) is the pink Memories pin tucked in behind my Pink Mini Gardenia. A little touch of Victorian Velvet around the edges and it blends in to this layout perfectly. 

I die cut some leaves from the same paper that I used as photo mats and added two shabby cream flowers from my stash. The other flowers in my clusters are my favourite Pink & White Cherry Blossoms, tiny Light Pink and White roses and some Pink and White Rose Buds. My two sweet fairies and the sparkling butterflies scattered around are fussy cut from the Enchanted Garden specialty paper 'Faries'. (Can't understand why Ngaire hasn't snapped this paper up yet...but glad I got a piece before she does...shhhh).

There is also a tiny chipboard heart in there - embossed to match of course, with Stampendous Shabby Pink.

Finally, I thought I'd try to take a photo showing how the clear Gel Medium and the gold flecks in the Stampendous Embossing powder pick up the light and shine....not a great photo, but I think it gives you an idea...a pretty, subtle sparkle on a pretty, girly page.

Messy Boys Layout with Traffic Lights

Stepping out of my comfort zone today with a colourful layout, but staying within my zone by using cardboard as the base.

Grab yourself a piece of cardboard and tear some of the top layers off. I always cut my cardboard 29cm x 29cm to allow room to go in your photo sleeves as these types of layouts are usually thicker than a standard pp layout.

Cut yourself some cardboard gadget gears and layer then add buttons , yellow ric rac and transport charms, like our utes, motorbikes and buggies. 

Once happy with placement cover with Claudine Hellmuth Multi-Medium

Add Mustard Seed Distress Paint, Fired Brick Distress Paint and Black Soot Distress Paint and spritz with water. 

Don't be afraid of going crazy with the paints,  which I understand it can be daunting at first when attempting these types of layouts.  If you add too much distress paint, it can easily be wiped off with a spray of water and tissue,while it is still wet.  I did this with the Fired Brick Distress Paint, as I was going to add another photo which was mainly red, but felt the page was too busy for two photos, hence removing some of the red paint.

Make yourself a Traffic Lights which was the perfect embellishment for this themed layout.  Here is the link to creating your own Traffic Lights

With some scrap yellow cardstock I added journaling using the Sizzix File Tab die (and a few splats of Black Soot Distress Paint)

Make a title with Jenni Bowlin Tiny Circle Alphas in Vintage Brown and Silver Metallic Thickers.
Add a silver arrow pointing to the tile.

I also added another piece of yellow ric rac untouched with mediums so it was like the underlining of the title.

And to finish it off wipe over areas with Inka Gold Silver

Colouring Charms

Using our Silver Evening Dress Charms as an example (after all, what woman doesn't want a variety of looks for her eveningwear?), we have coloured our charms with the following products:

Sunflower Yellow Stazon 

Yellow Stickles.

Mustard Seed Distress Paint

Inka Gold

Stampendous Aged Gold Embossing Enamel

They are also in order of how well they coloured, with Stazon being the best, but this does only apply to these smaller charms.  I have used the following products on larger charms and the Stampedous came out on top of some of the tests.  I think it is a personal choice and can often be up to what affect you want to create. You can also combine mediums - how cool would the Stazon and Stickles look together?? Experimentation is the key and playing with the various mediums is half the fun.

 Let's get started on play time ...

Embellishing a Filigree Flower Border

First, paint the Filigree Border Flourish Flower with Mustard Seed Distress Paint and when dry, add Yellow Stickles. 

Cut up a small 23cm yellow mulberry flower into individual petals and place behind the main flower for a layered look.  The flower had to be cut up, as it was too small to be placed behind in one piece, and the other mulberry flowers in stock were too large.

Finish with a dark brown pearl in the centre of the filigree flower

A quick easy way to jazz up our Butterfly Filigrees is to add a small yellow rose in the centre and trim half of the stem off.  Attach other piece of the stem to behind the butterfly and fold both stems to create the antennas.

 

For those of you who subscribed to my "A Year in the Life" subscription kit back in 2011, you may remember the Christmas Tree we made from a circle .... well this dress works on the same principle!

Grab a chipboard mannequin and cover (using your finger) with inka gold.

Take a 11cm doily and fold like so:

 

then turn with the point upright.

 

 

Paint the layers with Mustard Seed Distress Paint and spritz with water.  Adhere as a skirt to your mannequin. 

Cut a piece from another 11cm doily (see below) and again paint with Mustard Seed Distress Paint. Again, attach to the mannequin.

Cut and attach a small piece of Gold Fibre Ribbon and Gold Cup Chain for the belt.

 

Lift up the layers of the skirt and add some cream tulle underneath and then trim to shape.

As a final touch and to add some sparkle, wipe some Yellow Stickles over the doily dress.

 

 Now for one more mannequin ...

 Add a thick layer of Stampendous Aged Gold Embossing Enamel and heat from underneath.  

DON'T heat from above, or you will have a nice mess to clean up! 

Once it is melted (this will take about a minute because of the thick layer), you can then heat from above and press a Kaisercraft Script Stamp into your melted embossing powder as you do so.

 (Don't worry if you miss some bits, it does stay warm long enough for you to take the stamp off the stamping block and hand stamp the remaining areas.)

Had to show this photo that DD took, the wrinkle is the embossing powder moving - you probably had to be here, but embossing powders are cool to watch.

(I think I have said this recently - I need to get a life!)

Okay while the mannequin cools down,

cut up strips of cream tulle and black tulle to make a dress and centre it with a gold poinsettia,

before attaching it to a card (that is still in progress as I am typing!).

So far I have lightly painted a Twiddlebitz Black C6 Card with Mustard Seed Distress Paint

and again heat embossed with the Kaisercraft Script Stamp

 and Stampendous Aged Gold Embossing Enamel.

 

Hope that has given you an idea or two for adding gold/yellow to your projects or

perhaps given you a new technique to add to your next creation.

A Reason to Smile!

We don't always have enough room on layouts for lots of journalling or sometimes we just want to keep it private, so here is a "pretty" journalling pocket for your layouts, 

or perhaps even for a card when giving money. 

Take one Inkessentials Manilla Tag #8 and cover with Mustard Seed Distress Stain then scrunch up  while wet, then let dry or cheat by using a heat gun.  

Lay flat and wipe lightly with Old Paper Distress Ink using the ink pad directly onto the tag, so it only picks up the raised scrunch up parts.  Ink edges also with Old Paper

Now fold tag as photo shows

Open tag back up, and cut and tape as the photo shows.  Remove tape and seal sides

Wipe some Buttercream Baker's Twine with Old Paper Distress Ink.  

Now at this point I wasn't sure what I was going to do with the twine, it just seemed like a good idea to use some and blend ink on it to tone down the white in the twine.  LOL

So after inking it I moved it to the side

and what do you know .... I liked the look of how it lay - so a new idea came to my head

(thank goodness because really at this point I had no idea what I was doing, firstly I started off making a tag, next minute it's a journaling pocket, hence why the first photo shows the whole tag being inked!)

 

So after a lightbulb moment ...

I got myself a Twiddleybitz Vintage Inscribed Chipboard key (they come in a pack of 4, and you may remember I used one my gold and black clipboard photo frame, blogged a few days ago)

and covered the key with Mustard Seed Distress Stain, 

when dry wipe with Old Paper Distress Ink, then using my finger wiped over Inka Gold in random areas 

 

then pop the twine onto the key that lay on my mat!

ta da 

LOVE IT!!

oh and added a yellow 1cm rose, with an antique bronze heart locket charm that I lightly wiped with Inka Gold

 

Now I was stuck again, (I swear I started this tag 2 weeks ago!)

I found a yellow glitter brad but didn't want to make a big deal of "sealing" the pocket 

heck after coming up with my pretty bit of twine I wasn't taking anything away from it!

So I pierced a hole below the flap for my brad and added an Antique Bronze Arrow.  

So you slide it down when opening your pocket.

lastly, a Tim Holtz Idea-ology Reinforcer over the tag "hole"

and a quick touch all over "lightly" with Inka Gold

You can do this part before sealing the sides, as previous step, but remembering I didn't know what I was actually making during this whole process (this is usually how I scrap!)

Now I am one happy scrapper with one pretty little pocket!

okay so I was on a roll and nothing was stopping me,
 so while I had the Inkssentials Manialla Tag #8 out, I made this:

I applied in a row Salty Ocean Distress Stain, Weathered Wood then Mustard Seed Distress Paint and spritz it with water to my tag

(love spritzing the distress range with water, gives it such a different finish)

When it was dry I ran it through my cuttlebug using the Rays Embossing Folder (damm SO sorry, if anyone wants one let me know and I will order more in)

Then with my ink blending tool, I blended Vintage Photo Distress Ink around the edges

Next I got some white ric rac and coloured it with Salty Ocean Distress Stain, or you could use Salty Ocean Distress Ink or Distress Paint.  Either way you will get a cool result to match your project!

See the photo, the left hand side is spritz with water and dabbed with a tissue and the right is left untouched.  See the difference?

I discreetly, stapled the yellow ric rac and the blue ric rac to the end of the tag and added one of the Limited Edition Yellow Charming Floral, with Blue Lillies and adhered with Dimensional Magic.

The title "smile" letters are Jewelry Box Chipboard Metallic Gold that has had a random wipe with Inka Gold Cobalt Blue.  Our Made with a Smile sun charm has been painted with Mustard Seed Distress Paint.

Added some Tim Holtz Chitchat stickers to finish it off (like Jen used yesterday on her Imagine Card)

Sometimes I like to send a Birthday Tag, instead of a card, but this tag could be used for most occasions or a "just because" I wanted to send you a tag!

Yellow Week, Imagine the possibilities...

Hello Everyone

Jennifer with you here today!    In honour of "Yellow Week", I created a quick card!  I love this combination of black and white, teamed with the lovely bright yellows.

I had fun playing with the Tim Holtz Idea-Ology Mask Sheets again - using a die to create the cutout, and using my ink blending tool - first with squeezed lemonade and then mustard seed distress inks.  Once I had removed the mask, I stamped the Kaiser Stamp slightly off-set with black Archival Ink.

I used the sponge applicator again to change the colour of the roses slightly from the cream colour to the matching hue of the yellow already on the card.  

I curled the stems of the flowers and put them together in a bunch, adhering them to the card with hot glue. Next I used black distress stain to colour the white pre-tied ribbon bow, the silver thread adds that little touch of bling; adhering it once again with hot glue.

I also coloured one on the words from Tim Holtz ChitChat sheets - "imagine" to match the card, again with my ink blending tool.  I also sponged the edges of the envelope and then inked them in black Archival Ink as well.
