Kaisercraft Time Machine Collection

Hi there! 

My turn again - this time with the brand new and really awesome Kaisercraft Time Machine Collection and ''Lunch with Grampy''. How utterly cute is my step-grandson? We love him to bits.

I've had the background for this layout prepared for ages, a piece 12''x12'' sheet of chipboard, covered with sticky backed canvass then randomly painted with Distress Paints - Picket Fence, Antique Linen and Bundled Sage.  

Then some Texture Paste applied through a brick template using my special ''my2angels'' applicator. When the texture paste is dry put the template back over it and colour just the raised areas with a light dab of Distress Ink using the Ink Blending Tool. I've used Frayed Burlap, a tiny bit of Aged Mahogony and Brushed Corduroy.

Then when the ink was perfectly dry I stamped over the top of the bricks with Stazon Jet Black ink. The Kaisercraft Graffiti stamp is perfect on a brick wall.

So that was when I just stopped. No more inspiration....got on with other jobs, made some ATC's, finished a completely different layout....basically just left it all on the side of my desk. 

Then Tracy went to Kaisercraft in Melbourne and got me a present - the new Time Machine Collection! Hooray! Inspired again and ready for this layout!

The next layer is made up of many different small pieces of paper and a few scraps of tape. First some torn strips of ''Steam Engine'' then two journalling pieces - one from ''Scriptorian'' and one from ''Gadget''. I cut the piece from ''Gadget'' into two - the first is at the top (Make this moment count) and the fussy cut clock and gear are on the far left hand side. There's a long green ribbon running underneath that's from the 12x12 Sticker Sheet and the two pennants are cut from the reverse of ''Scriptorian'' and the reverse of ''Cogler''.

My green Eucalyptus leaves are die cut from ''Cogler as well - a lovely light minty green. Love these Ultimate Crafts Australian dies too - so good to be able to have leaves (and animals etc.) that are actually growing where your photo is taken! A looped piece of twine at the top is attached to a Knife and Fork Charm. Originally silver, I coloured it with Inka Gold and a bit of Black Soot Distress Ink.

Arranged along the bottom of the photos are some chipboard, wooden and metal Gadget Gear Cog Charms. The chipboard is heat embossed using Aged Mahogony Distress Embossing Powder which gives it a rough texture. The centres of the cogs are Cream Pearls and a perfect little Plate with Cutlery Charm.

More scrapping in the Limelight

Geli here again with more Limelight.

The awesome Limelight collection works really well with the chalkboard look that is so trendy now! Simply pair it with a black background and some white doodles, splashes and journaling for a great effect. 

Use the Damask template and dab a finger/sponge with watermark ink over just one of the designs. Heat emboss it and splash some white mist or watered down gesso over the black cardstock. 

Now embellish with strips of the Today paper...

 ... and a selection of die-cuts from the collectables pack.

Team it with a few green starburst buttons and some silver stars. These are puffy, metallic and oh-so-versatile. If you don't have them in your stash already, then go and get some! I love them. 

You also really need some bike charms! Everyone needs a bike charm...

I still had a few bits left and made a couple of cards:

 If you like the popular chalkboard look, but don't feel overly confident with chalkboard paint and chalk, don't despair - fake it till you make it!

 Choose one of the many fabulous stencils from the templates, masks and stencils section (mine is the leaves template) and a black card. Tap a white Adirondack paint dabber on your cutting mat to make a little puddle of paint. Pick it up with a finger sponge or cosmetic sponge and dab over the leaf design. Once it's dry, outline it with a white gel pen. 

 After you have attached 2 of the tags from Dawn paper, continue the leaf design onto the tag as well. Add some spots with Liquid Pearls, a green mini gardenia, ribbon and a love key charm. 

Draw some white doodles around the edge of the card and you have faked it like a pro!

 Hi Ladies,

Michele here again, this time with a layout using Kaisercraft's LIMELIGHT collection.

 

LIMELIGHT is very green - and green is not really within my comfort zone - but in some way these papers reminded me of how deep and rich the colours are in my garden at the end of summer; and the sentiments expressed in the quotes remind us to take time out and enjoy the small moments in life. So I went outside and took a few photos and this layout was born. I have to admit that it is an unusual one for me, and I'm not sure I even like it very much ... but anyhow, here's how I put it together.

At first I was going to use the reverse of VIBRANT as my background ... a no brainer really, great for backgrounds with its grey woodgrain pattern, but I had a moment of inspiration (or not) and decided that - since we have a brick wall and not a paling fence at our house - I would use Morter from the Base Coat Collection instead. 

A large piece of the olive green reverse of LEARN covers a bit more than half of the page. The brick pattern in the top and bottom corners was created using the Twiddleybitz Bricks Template and Ferro Metal Effect Textured Paint in both Copper and Iron.

 

The leaf shapes over the bricks are courtesy of some sticky- backed vinyl masks I have had forever. It would be just as effective to use a paper mask if you have one of them. I stuck them to the page first, then peeled them off (carefully) while the paint was still wet to give the impression of foliage against the brick wall. 

 

After the paint had dried, I decided that the bricks really were way too bright for me. Maybe I should have stuck with the paling fence after all?? LOL! I stuck my now washed masks back onto the paper for some more leaf shapes and gave the whole background a thin whitewash of Gesso, letting some of the white pool in the cracks between the Ferro bricks and thus blurring the edges of the green paper a little.

Next, I raided the LIMELIGHT COLLECTABLES pack and strung three tags with appropriate quotes onto a piece of string, added two thin banners to mix up the lengths. They are all mounted on Dimensional Tape, which allows the string to loop through them freely. On the end is an Antique Silver Leaf Charm which I coloured with a light rubbing of Jade Inka Gold. A ticket and another of the banners form the base of the small cluster at the top of the page.

 

My photos all have a border of distressed Core-dinations Nightfall cardstock. In turn, they are mounted on two layers of the reverse of FIRST STEP - one is attached with a small bulldog clip, one with a bright green paperclip and the middle one is wrapped in string with another Inka Gold Jade coloured Antique Silver Leaf Charm dangling from it .

 

Tucked in-between the layers at the bottom are three patterned strips. The numbers and the butterflies are both manufacturer strips from the bottom of the patterned papers and the tape measure is a sticker from the LIMELIGHT 12 x 12 STICKER SHEET. I cut mine in half lengthwise to make it thinner. Also in there, is a pediment die cut from the reverse of DAWN.

 

My photos are very busy looking, so I kept the embellishments as simple as I could. Various leaves -  some are die-cut from the LEARN paper and some are either fussy cut (also from LEARN) or taken from the COLLECTABLES pack and of course some flowers. Three Mini Gardenias - green, olive and white - and a few cream and wine Cherry Blossoms.

 

There is also a wooden heart tucked in there - inked with a bit of Victorian Velvet on the edges and covered in Crackle Accents. The crackle was taking ages to dry in the rainy weather, so I blasted it with the heat gun to get this milky, bubbled effect. A few glass cabochons finished it off - tiny ones that look like water droplets and a larger one glued over a tiny bird from the COLLECTABLES pack.

I don't normally go crazy over green, but this new Limelight collection made me change sides. I love it and have used just about every scrap of the papers and Collectables I was given. They are perfect for masculine projects.

For my first layout, I cut out the section with botanical drawings from the front of the Arise paper(though they look great, they didn't go with the theme), flipped the paper over and used the back as a centre strip.

 

 It's all sticky-taped together on the back. 

The messy background was done with a splat stencil and Distress ink (Black Soot) applied with a blending tool. There is a bit of that in the top left corner too. 

The big splat is the perfect background for a cluster of die cuts from the Limelight collectables. An edge from the Classique frame kit's felt frame grounds it all nicely.

 

 I made a rough rosette from denim: Simply gather-stitch along one side of a 5cm wide strip of denim, pull the thread and gather-stitch until it forms a circle. Sew the 2 ends together and fray the outer edge.

 

 

In the middle sits a ric-rac rosette. Take 2 lengths of ric rac ribbon (on sale now) and braid them together. Just pretend you're braiding hair with only 2 bunches of hair. Some people sew them together, but I found the zig-zag patterns makes them stick together all by themselves. Once the whole piece is braided, roll them up and glue as you roll, keeping the circle flat like a disc. It's really easy. The ric-rac comes in 2m lengths and I made 2 large rosettes from that (this one is the smaller of the two).

A few small embellies finish it off: a boy charm (find a similar one here), a few cogs from the gadget gear cogs (these will be a must-have in my stash for a looooong time), a LOL tag and a glass cabochon. 
 

A vintage button fits in the cog charm perfectly! Actually, it is simply a worn-out button that was just the right shade of green, that's all. But vintage sounds much classier!

The Limelight collection goes well with browns too!

 

For the next layout I made a grungy background by cutting out some cogs and painting over it with gesso, swiping some distress ink over it, masking, stamping, Inka Golding... I just kept going until it felt grungy enough. 
 

Unfortunately it was night-time and I didn't take photos of any of this.

 As you can see, the Limelight papers fit that perfectly too! I cut a wavy strip from the Today paper and paired it with the reverse (green) and some old yellow paper to match the lemon theme.

Kaisercraft Art of Life - You don't need special papers to scrap Christmas!

Hi Ladies! SO sorry to be away for so long...but on top of Christmas and a brand new year, I've been in a bit of a scrapping slump lately. Kaisercraft's Art of Life is such a great collection though that I am feeling re-inspired and ready to go!

I decided that for this layout - my Christmas Angel -  I really didn't need to add a lot of colour, so I stuck to the palette and used cream and gold accents to coordinate with the black, brown and cream of the papers.

This is a very old photo and the quality is poor, but we are here to scrap the memory, so an enlargement, a crop and slightly sepia tint made it good enough for me. The slight blurriness and grainy finish add to the Vintage vibe.

First a few layers of paper, all distressed except for the base. Starting from the bottom the papers are Thankful, the reverse of Moments, three sheets from the 6.5'' Paper Pad and finally the reverse of Creative. I've punched a film strip at the bottom of the honeycombed Moments so that the film strip print on Thankful shows through.

Then a little bit of texture in the 'blank' area of the layout - added using a Twiddleybitz Brick Template and some Viva Decor Modelling Cream in Mother of Pearl Champagne. As you can see, perfection is not necessary, and is probably more interesting.  After the bricks had dried I used a dry paintbrush and Metallic Gold Acrylic Paint to highlight the area and sprayed on some mist I made up using Gold Perfect Pearls and water in a Mini Mister. There are a few flicked drops of the same mist over the page as well. A bit of thin white gesso blurs the edges. I have also added a few scraps of musical note rubons that were sitting on my desk, left over from another project.

The embellishments on this layout are very simple.....A length of Tim Holtz Ideaology Film Strip Ribbon is threaded through the punched out area and a smaller piece tucked in between layers just above it. The film strip can be permanently twisted by heating it carefully and then letting it cool. This is out of stock at the moment, but I'm going to ask Tracy to get some more in for me ;)

Wrapped around the topmost layer of paper is a piece of Gold Shimmer Bakers Twine, tied off in a bow. Tucked underneath it, a Large Antique Bronze Christmas Tree with Gold Pearl Liquid Pearls filling in the spots for baubles.

To embellish the top of the photo I have used a Tim Holtz Pediment die cut from the 6.5" version of Loved,   White Cherry Blossoms and White Roses, both sprayed with my gold mist and a large Glass Cabochon. The cabochon is a perfect fit for the circles on the reverse of Everyday.

At the bottom of the layout around a gold flower from my stash which has been highlighted with white gesso and surrounded by more gold shimmered White Cherry Blossoms and larger White Roses. The gold balls have been hanging around in my stash for years, and the thin gold tangles of thread were unwound from my Gold Shimmer Bakers Twine.

There are a few more glass cabochons of various sizes tucked in amongst the flowers, one fitting perfectly inside an Antique Bronze Wish Embellishment. A small ''Peace on Earth'' tag has a sweet pair of Bronze Angel Wings dangling from its Gold Shimmer Bakers Twine bow.

My Title, Christmas Angel, is sitting on top of two tag elements from the Art of Life Collectables. The letters have been dusted with a shimmer of Perfect Gold Perfect Pearls.

Try scrapping your Christmas memories on papers that are NOT meant for Christmas - the results can be just as beautiful.

Kaisercraft have another awesome ''masculine'' collection coming soon - ''Garage Days'' - and I was lucky enough to get my hands on some to preview for you! Trust me, you will be buying this one to scrap your boys :)

My DS and his partner have been in Europe for the last three weeks or so, and thanks to Facebook we have been able to follow some of their adventures through their photos. My layout is based around photos they took and posted in Croatia (I think!) in some kind of weird looking car. How amazing is social media - before they are even home I have scrapped some of their photos. LOL!! For the same reason though I have no title for this layout yet...that will have to wait until I've heard their story :)

Because the Kaisercraft papers are not as robust as some others, I started with a sheet of cardstock - and left just a thin border around my layout. The main paper is a sheet of Tool Box, distressed around all the edges. Around about the centre of the page and on a slight angle I stuck a wide strip of Gas Tank. I've also added a bit of Pumice Stone Distress Ink to dirty the edges a little bit. 

Using a Twiddleybitz Narrow Arrow Template and white Gesso I added a chevron pattern to the top and bottom corners. When it was dry I used Peacock Feathers Distress Stain with a paint brush to add some splashes and drips of extra colour. A line of cars from the 12'' Sticker Sheet, travelling up the hill, draws your eye away from the edge of the page back to the centre.

There are three layers of paper under the photos. The first two, a contrasting orange/red and a shiny metallic silver grid pattern, are from the 6.5'' Paper Pad. I've punched the edge of the silver paper with a film strip punch and saved the punched out pieces to add to my banner later. The third layer is from the 'Oil Change' paper - a stitched blue denim.

Embellishing this one was a different experience for me...have you noticed there are NO flowers at all! Not even a rosette?? For the most part I used bits and pieces from the Collections pack - the ones that didn't refer to Fathers and Dads. One of my 'Gas' signs is cut from a piece of pp though - the 'Spare Parts' page is full of signs that can be used as embellishments. I punched a hole in the top of the larger one and added a Buggy Car charm on a silver jump ring.

The 6.5'' Paper Pad is also a great source for these. It has perforated cut-outs on the back four or five pages. My two small denim tags are examples of these, one of which is for journalling and can be pulled out from behind the Tyre Shop sign by it's Ball Chain.

I also used several pieces of the Ball Chain, all linked together, to string my number plate banner across the bottom of the photos. I cut the number plates out of the 'Tyre Shop' paper and threaded them on together with those left over punched metallic pieces. The pieces are all popped up on little pieces of Foam Mounting tape. At the end of the chain are two Boys with Caps silver charms on silver jump rings.

Other embellishments are a small torn piece of  the new Aqua Filmstrip printed tape along the bottom edge of the page, and five Water Bubble Cabochons which were perfect for this page.

Stop Press: The travellers are home today and tell me that this Buggy Safari was in Korcula, Croatia and was awesome fun. DS has a few souvenirs of the day that I will add to the layout - tickets and a few small coins. With some journalling on the pull-out tag at the top and a title (there is an alphabet included on the 12'' Sticker Sheet) it will be complete.

Get yourself some ''Garage Days'' as soon as you can - you wont regret it!
